WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTER

“Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women.”

For African American women, the risk of heart disease is especially great. Heart disease is more prevalent among black women than white women—as are some of the factors that increase the risk of developing it, including high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes. In their fight against heart disease, in 2005 the Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Inc., established a Women’s Resource Center at North General’s Women’s Health Center.

Building on The Links’ umbrella program called, “Women at Heart,” The Resource Center, which was designed specifically to combat heart disease, consists of a computer workstation, which allows patients to access and print, free-of-charge, information on heart-related issues. The center also features activities and demonstrations as well as books, magazines and leaflets with heart healthy information.
