In response to the overwhelmingly high incidence of cancer in Harlem, in 2003 The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention opened its doors. Made possible by a generous gift from the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, the Center was formed through a partnership between North General Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The Center offers cancer prevention and screening services, as well as treatment and support services to those diagnosed with the disease. Medical oncologists, surgeons and support staff from North General Hospital staff the Center. Patients requiring diagnostic and inpatient services are referred to North General.
