PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

North General Hospital has historically organized services in line with its mission and in response to the healthcare needs of the communities it serves.

DIABETES TREATMENT CENTER

Unhealthy lifestyle choices are putting people at risk for heart disease and many other health problems—especially diabetes. Diabetes, itself, is a chronic illness that can lead to heart attack, blindness, kidney failure and amputations. The best way to prevent and/or treat diabetes is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“Even modest increases in exercise and reductions in weight can reduce the risk of diabetes by more than half”

Staffed with a group of endocrinologists, nutritionists and nurse practitioners, the Diabetes Treatment Center focuses on detection, treatment and follow-up care for people with diabetes. The Center is committed to offering the latest in diabetes care, with an emphasis on education. Educating the community about how to prevent diet-related illness is half the battle in fighting this deadly disease.

The other half is educating those who are afflicted to properly maintain an acceptable blood glucose control as well as reduce the occasion of further complications. Program components include small classes and hands-on activities such as monitoring blood glucose as well as support groups and diabetes seminars.
