AGE DISTRIBUTION People in East and Central Harlem are slightly younger than the New York City average. There were a higher proportion of residents under 14 (23%) than in the city as a whole (19%) in the 2000 census. In East Harlem one out of four residents is a woman of childbearing age (15-44). The percent of population over 65 is comparable to the New York City average (11.4% as compared to 11.2%). |
