Agencies and departments of the U.S. Government have identified a number of instances of fraud, abuse, and waste in federally funded health care programs including Medicare and Medicaid. North General Hospital has a well-established compliance program, endorsed by the Board of Trustees, to comply with applicable laws and regulations that could threaten the Hospital’s continuing participation in these health care programs.
The Hospital’s integrity program allows a compliance team to evaluate and ensure internal controls on the organization’s practices, and to continue the Hospital’s commitment to high standards of conduct, honesty, and reliability in its business practices. The goal of the Compliance Program is to create a culture that promotes understanding of and adherence to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
The Compliance Program’s evaluation process ensures that the Hospital will not inadvertently, negligently, or intentionally engage in illegal activity by establishing a culture of commitment to legal and ethical conduct. Guided by the federal and New York State Office of the Inspector General regulations, the program embraces the required elements of a healthcare program, including a Code of Conduct, standard policies and procedures for high-risk areas, monitoring/auditing and staff education and enforcement.
